1. Describe what you see on one of the web cams.
Answer: Answers will vary. For example, a complete answer could include “On the polar bear live camera there are two smaller bears wrestling in the water and a larger bear swimming around on one side. The big bear occasionally dives onto a large rubber ball, pushing it underwater.”
2. What question would you ask the zookeeper if you were there?
Answer: Answers will vary. Students should consider the animals’ size, eating patterns, sleep habits, play, cages, care, etc.
3. How do you know that the air is cold just by watching the video?
Answer: The students wore coats.
4. What did you observe in the classroom that might help the students get out of the locked room?
Answer: Students may suggest any variety of answers including using the intercom, making a sign on paper, opening the window to yell, etc.

Answer: Answers will vary and may include a time when students wanted to find out where they could buy a new toy, find out if their friend was available for a play date, help to raise a new pet, etc.

Answer: Students might describe the soft fuzzy covering, or the small size, or the way that the bird is opening his beak wide for his mother to drop him a worm.
7. Why is it important to observe clues on a bird?
Answer: The various sizes, colors, shapes, and feather types indicate whether the birds are babies or grown up and whether they are male or female.
8. An important component of the scientific method is to define and identify the problem. In other words, we ask a question about something that we wish to learn more about. Write a question that describes a situation you would like to learn more about at school.
Answer: Students may pose questions about any variety of topics including lunch choices, playground games, insects they have observed on the playground, or a classroom subject, etc.

Answer: Answers will vary. Examples may include, “I will run faster in physical education class if I eat a healthy lunch,” or “I will draw a more colorful picture if I wear a colorful shirt.” etc.
10. Why does hitting a baseball with a bat sometimes hurt?
Answer: If you do not hold the bat properly and if you do not hit the baseball at a specific ideal spot on a bat, the bat will vibrate and those vibrations may cause minor pain.
11. What do you think would happen to the sound if you changed the water to milk or another liquid?
Answer: Answers will vary. Students should indicate that “thicker” liquids like milk or orange juice with pulp will slightly alter the sound.
12. Describe how two senses are very important in double Dutch? Which do you think is more important?
Answer: It is important to see the two ropes as you jump and it is important to hear the tapping of the ropes on the ground and the swish as they swing through the air to know when to jump.
